Abstract

The value of catfish production in Indonesia has decreased drastically every year. Increasing stocking density can be a solution to increase production, but it will have a negative impact on decreasing water quality which will also disrupt catfish production. Therefore, it needs to be accompanied by the application of biofloc and aquaponics technology which plays a role in maintaining optimal water quality while providing additional natural feed (floc) which can reduce feed use and reduce water usage. This study aims to increase the production value of sangkuriang catfish through the application of biofloc and aquaponic systems. This research was conducted in October-November 2022 at the Raudhatul Ulum Sakatiga Agribusiness Group, Ogan Ilir Regency. This study was designed using a comparison experiment. The treatments given consisted of P0 (control), P1 (Maintenance of sangkuriang catfish aquaponic biofloc of kale plant), and P2 (Maintenance of Sangkuriang catfish aquaponic biofloc of lettuce plant). The results showed that P2 was the best treatment which resulted in absolute growth in weight and length of 7.18 g and 3.74 cm, survival of 98%, and growth in length of kale of 30.9 cm.Keywords: aquaponics; biofloc; sangkuriang catfish

Abstract

Research on calcium minerals that are effective and safe for health and the environment is being developed. These studies aim to find natural ingredients that contain high mineral levels, study effective methods, and study the characteristics of calcium obtained. Natural calcium is interesting to develop because it comes from renewable natural resources such as those fishery wastes. This article contains a study of the potential of fish bones, shellfish shells, and crustacean shells as natural sources of calcium and methods of manufacture. Oyster shells that are crushed at 900°C for 2 hours will produce Ca2+ levels of 56.77% while calcination for 4 hours produces Ca2+ = 86.22%. direct shells calcined at 900°C; 4 hours yields Ca2+= 77.15%.   The yield produced with a calcination time of ‰¥ 4 hours is relatively stable, which is 55 -57 %.Keywords: Calcium; Clam shells; crustacean shells; fish bones

Abstract

Success in the fish hatchery is influenced by natural feed. One of the natural freshwater feeds that have a high nutritional content and is easy to cultivate is Daphnia magna. The availability of D. magna at any time must be supported by daily feeding. Ulva lactuca macroalgae is one of the ingredients that have the potential to be used as D. magna feed because it has good nutrition and is abundantly available on the coast. This research was conducted for 17 days at the Integrated Laboratory of Madako Tolitoli University. The aim of the study was to determine the population growth of D. magna fed          U. lactuca. D. magna was reared in a 25 x 25 x 30 cm aquarium containing 5 liters of green water and a stocking density of 20 individuals/L. The treatments tried were Treatment A = Without U. lactuca Soak (0 ml/L), Treatment B = U. lactuca Soak (3 ml/L), Treatment C = U. lactuca Soak (5 ml/L). The results showed that the administration of U. lactuca 5 ml/L (804.44 ind/L) had the highest population growth compared to the treatment of 3 ml/L immersion of U. lactuca (597.78 ind/L) and without administration of immersion of U. lactuca (482.22 ind/L). Treatment of U. Lactva 5 ml/L is effective in increasing Growth D. Magna and can be an alternative feed D. Magna whose availability is abundant in the coastal area. Keywords: Daphnia magna; growth; Ulva lactuca

Abstract

Sea cucumber (Holothuria scabra) contains lots of collagen and vitamin E for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. H. scabra have high economic value. The price in the local market is IDR 400,000-1,200,000/kg and internationally it is IDR 500,000-IDR 5,000,000/kg dry weight. The level of exploitation is high, and it is suspected that there has been overfishing in several areas. Cultivation efforts need to be done to maintain the population in nature. The natural rate of gonad maturation and spawning in H. scabra broodstock is relatively slow, so efforts are needed to speed it up, among other things by administering hormones. This study aimed to stimulate (1) gonad maturation and (2) H. scabra spawning. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 3 replications in 2 stages using broodstock measuring 250-350 g/head. Stage 1: (1) Treatment A: without immersing the H. scabra in hormone solution, (2) Treatment B: immersing the H. scabra in the Oodev®/Oocyte developer dose of 1 mL/kg weight, and (3) Treatment C: soaking sea cucumber broodstock in Oodev® dose of 2 mL/kg weight. Stage 2: (1) without immersion of the broodstock in hormone solution, (2) immersion of the broodstock in Ovaprim® doses of 1 mL/kg weight. The data obtained were analyzed by analysis of variance. The results showed that immersion of H. scabra broodstock in Oodev® and ovaprim® was not successful in stimulating gonad maturation and spawning in H. scabra broodstock. The spawning behavior of sea cucumbers that were successfully observed included body movements such as writhing, coiling like a ball, sticking to walls, partially erecting their bodies, actively crawling, and being more active at night. Keywords: Gonad; Holothuria scabra; Oodev®; Ovaprim®; Spawning; Sea cucumber.

Abstract

Wairuhu River is disembogued on the sill of Poka-Galala, Ambon Bay. The estuary is affected by the coastal reclamation which led to the fester sedimentation. It triggers the problem of altering the shoreline and the dynamics of water movement, as well as the surrounding ecosystem. The modeling approach was applied to reconstruct the alterations around the estuary. The study aimed to estimate the changes on the shoreline, current patterns, and sediment transport patterns (suspended sediment), and to describe marine resources around the estuary of Wairuhu. MIKE 3 FM was utilized to reconstruct the pattern of flow and sediment transport changes, and coordinates plottings from satellite data were used to measure the coastline. The model was validated by using the data of tide and surface flow. The results showed the alteration pattern of the shoreline around the Wairuhu estuary occurred as a result of coastal reclamation. The flow validation (mooring and model) using RMSE was 0.38 which meant there was no difference between the model and mooring. By the model, the flow pattern that passed through the APG was following the tidal pattern. The changes in the tidal platform also occurred on the sediment transport pattern that formed the total distribution pattern of SSC (suspended sediment concentration). Several classes of macroflora and macrofauna were uncovered, such as Malacostraca, Echinoidea, Bivalvia, Asteroidea, Ophiuroidea, and Gastropoda. Keywords: Modeling; Poka-Galala sill; Sedimentation; Wairuhu River
