Acta Aquatica: Aquatic Sciences Journal is a scientific open access journal in the field of aquatic sciences, published periodically (April and October) by the Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM) Universitas Malikussaleh (Malikussaleh University) in cooperation with Marine Center Universitas Malikussaleh, Department of Aquaculture Universitas Malikussaleh and Department of Marine Science Universitas Malikussaleh. Acta aquatica are publish original research, overviews and reviews relating to aquatic environments (wetlands, freshwater and marine waters) and the border limits of these environmental systems and the impacts of human activities on the environmental systems. Acta Aquatica has a related studies in aquatic bioecology, aquaculture, hydrology, biodiversity of aquatic biosphere, oceanology, exploitation and exploration technology of aquatic resources, fisheries product technology, aquatic microbiology, aquatic modeling, aquatic geographic information systems, and socio-economic of aquatic resources.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of different salinity on egg hatchability and survival of tiger grouper larvae (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus). The method used in this study was an experimental method with 4 treatments repeated 3 times. Each treatment was given a different salinity P1= 30 ppt, P2= 25 ppt, P3= 20 ppt, P4= 15 ppt. The results of giving different salinity treatments had a significant effect (P <0.05) on egg hatchability and survival of tiger grouper larvae. The results showed that the best salinity treatment for egg hatchability and survival of tiger grouper larvae was in the P1 treatment (30 ppt) with values of 40.96 ± 0.24d, and 84.41 ± 0.89c. Thus, hatching of eggs and hatching of tiger grouper larvae should be done at a salinity of 30 ppt.Keywords: Egg Hatch Rate; Salinity; Survival; Tiger Grouper

Abstract

The Banjaran River is one of the rivers in the Banyumas Regency. This research aims to produce information related to macrozoobenthic community structure as a bioindicator of water quality in the Banjaran River and to produce information related to water quality in the Banjaran River for macrozoobenthic life. The research was conducted in September 2022 - February 2023 on the Banjaran River, Banyumas. This research uses a survey method, sampling was carried out 3 times in September-November 2022. The sampling method was purposive random sampling, namely the river was divided into 3 stations based on certain criteria. The results of this research obtained 15 species and were divided into 11 families, namely Perlidae, Psychomyiidae, Thiaridae, Lumbricidae, Naididae, Gecarcinucidae, Palaemonidae, Elmidae, Hydropsychidae, Atyidae, and Chironomidae in the Banjaran River. The highest abundance of individuals was at station two, namely 3156 individuals/m2. The dominant species is Melanoides tuberculata with an abundance of 1852 individuals/m2 at station two. The dominance index values at the three stations ranged from 0.1864 to 0.2886, which is relatively low. The water quality in the Banjaran River for macrozoobenthic life is still quite good based on the results of measuring environmental parameters which consist of physical parameters, namely water temperature and current speed.Keywords: Banjaran River, Macrozoobenthos Community, Water Quality Indicators

Abstract

Indramayu Regency is located in estuarine waters, namely the North Coast of Java Island, the coast which is directly adjacent to the sea with a coastline length of 147 Km makes Indramayu Regency great potential in the field of fisheries. Mullet fish (Mugil cephalus) is a type of fish that has high economic value in the Estuarine Waters of Indramayu Regency. The purpose of the research is to measure reproductive aspects which include sex ratio, gonadal maturity level, gonadal maturity index, fecundity and egg diameter and food habits which include the largest share index and trophic level of black mullet (Mugil cephalus) caught by gill nets used by fishermen. Black mullet (Mugil cephalus) is one of several fish species that have high economic value in the Estuary Waters of Indramayu Regency. This research was conducted in January 2022 - April 2022. Fish samples were taken from the catch of fishermen using a gill net. The results showed that of the 123 mullet fish caught, the ratio of male and female mullet fish was unbalanced, namely 1: 1.8 or 44% for male mullet fish and 56% for female mullet fish. Male mullets are dominant in TKG I and TKG II while female mullets are dominant in TKG III and TKG IV. The fecundity of mullets is quite large at 11,882 - 265,108 grains, Mullet diameter ranges from 0.04 - 0.78 mm with a two-peak distribution mode indicating partial spawning. The preponderance index of mullets shows detritus and phytoplankton as the main feed, zooplankton as complementary feed, and additional feed in the form of animal parts and plant parts. The habit of eating mullets is known as omnivores because mullets eat detritus and phytoplankton as their main food.Keywords: Estuary; Food habits; Indramayu; Mugil chepalus; Reproduction

Abstract

The Banggai cardinalfish is an endemic fish in Banggai waters which is experiencing a population decline caused by excessive exploitation and degradation of its microhabitat. This research aims to determine the population of the Banggai cardinalfish and its microhabitat in Bilalang Bay. The research was conducted from January to February 2023 in Bilalang Bay, Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi. Research data collection used the Underwater Visual Survey (UVS) method using a 20mx5m belt transect (2.5m left and right of the transect rope) at five observation stations. Observations made included recruits (<25 mm) Total Length, juveniles (25-60 mm), and adults (>60 mm). The results of observations of the population and density of the Banggai cardinalfish differ based on five observation stations. The highest population of the Banggai cardinalfish is found at location II with a total population of 4,412 fish, consisting of 2,510 adult size fish, 1,800 juvenile size fish, and 102 recruit size fish, with a density of adults 21.1 ind/m2, juvenile density 8 ind/m2, and recruit density 0.5 ind/m2. Meanwhile, the highest population based on size is adult size. The recruitment stage of the Banggai cardinalfish is only found in stations 1, 2, and 3, with microhabitats of sea urchins and anemones. Abstract

Analog rice is artificial rice shaped like rice which can be made from non-rice flour. This research aims to determine the effect of Chlorella fortification on the quality of sago mocaf analog rice and to find out the best formulation The method used in the study was an experiment with a non-factorial completely randomised design (CRD), with 4 treatment levels in the manufacturing of sago mocaf analog rice with different amount of Chlorella powder namely: 0 g (BA0), 1 g (BA1), 1.5 g (BA2) and 2 g (BA3). Based on the results, sago mocaf analogue rice-fortified Chlorella has a significant effect on appearance, aroma, taste, ash, protein, fat and carbohydrate content but has no significant effect on the texture and moisture content at the 95% confidence level. Based on the organoleptic test, the addition 1 g of Chlorella powder (BA1 treatment) in the manufacturing of sago mocaf analog rice was most preferred by consumer acceptance with the characteristics: complete appearance and greenish colour (8.71), neutral aroma/no Chlorella smell/typical sago aroma (8.73), good taste and a slight taste of fish flour (8.60), very hard texture and not easily broken (8.63); with 4.70% of water content, 1.42% of ash, 10.57% of protein, 4.54% of fat and 78.84% of carbohydrate. Abstract

Happiness can be interpreted as subjective well-being that elucidates about the meaning of life, feeling, and overall life satisfaction. According to FAO, Covid-19 pandemic impacts on global food supply chain. So far, the concept of happiness and the welfare of coastal communities does not get the appropriate portion. This study aims to: (1) analyze the happiness level of fisherman during Covid-19 pandemic, (2) analyze the influence of the dimensions of life satisfaction, feelings, and the meaning of life on the fishermans happiness during the covid-19 period, and (3) analyze the differences to the fishermans happiness based on fishing fleet structure. This study was a descriptive study using quantitative approach. There were 107 fishermen of Prigi Archipelagic Fishing Port (PPN) used as the subjects of study. Sampling technique used stratified random sampling by noticing to the ship fleet size strata. The data of this study referred to enumeration guidelines of happiness level measurement survey (SPTK) by Statistic Center and Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ). Generally, the fishermen who are at the PPN Prigi area is in the quite happy category. The satisfaction, feeling, and meaning of life dimensions significantly influence the fishermans happiness during the Covid-19 pandemic. Based on the obtained score, the highest happiness level ison the fisherman who have the type of fleet of 10-2- GT vessels, in which it is 4,11; the type of fleet <10 GT is 4,1; and the vessel fleet of 20 GT is 4,03: and there is no difference in the fishermans happiness based on structure of the fishing fleet.Keywords: BPS Measurement, Covid-19, Fishermen; Happiness, OHQ Measurement

Abstract

Crab is one of the coastal fisheries resources that has high economic value and has been intensively utilized. This study aims to analyze the size of the carapace width and weight of the S. serrata crab. The research was conducted using the survey method, through measurement at the crab landing and marketing site. The results showed that the carapace width of male mud crabs ranged from 59.1-149.3 mm (87.35 ± 12.36 mm), with weights ranging from 30.0-560 g (121.68 ± 46.11 g). Female mud crabs had carapace widths ranging from 64.0-172 mm (88.16 ± 14.24 mm), with weights ranging from 40.0-790 g (128.14 ± 64.20 g). The growth pattern of male and female mud crabs is negative allometric, with carapace width increasing faster than crab weight. Crabs that meet the size that can be caught based on carapace width are 13 crabs (2.32%) and based on weight are 118 crabs (21.03%). Abstract

The development of vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) cultivation still faces many problems. One of them is the availability of seeds whose growth is slow and variable, as well as high mortality after being stocked in ponds. This study aimed to examine the post-larval metabolic rate of tiger prawns in terms of oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion at different salinities. The research was carried out November - December 2023 in the Takalar Intensive Pond Unit, after which vannamei shrimp larvae with a density of 100 individuals/l were reared for acclimation for two weeks in tanks containing media water with a salinity of 10, 20 and 30 ppt. At the end of the acclimation period for the test shrimp, a respirometer was prepared to measure oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion. The results of the research showed that the average value of oxygen consumption after vannamei shrimp larvae occurred at a salinity of 10 ppt, then followed respectively at a salinity of 30 and 20 ppt. The results of the analysis of variance showed that salinity had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on oxygen consumption after vannamei shrimp larvae, but in the LSD follow-up test it appeared that only the 10 ppt treatment was very significantly different (P<0.01) and the same results occurred. on ammonia excretion, although the test of variance (LSD) had no significant effect. The survival rate and post-larval growth of vanamei shrimp reached the highest average value at a salinity of 20 ppt with very significantly different variance results. Based on the measurement results above, the optimum metabolic rate after vannamei shrimp larvae occurs at a salinity of 20 ppt (isotonic conditions occur between the shrimp's body fluids and the medium).Keywords: Ammonia Excretion; Metabolism Rate, Oxygen Consumption; Vanname Shrimp

Abstract

Grey mackerel is a fish that originates from tropical and subtropical waters worldwide. This pelagic fish has very important economic value in the Indonesian fishing industry. Grey mackerel production in WPP 711 using gillnet fishing gear has shown a fluctuating trend in recent years. This research is to estimate the stock of grey mackerel fish caught by fishermen who landed at PPN Pemangkat and Sungai Rengas Fishing Port. This research uses two data collection methods, namely primary and secondary data collection. The results of data analysis of the relationship between length and weight in the catch of grey tuna fish of 1,015 total fish samples produced the equation W = 0.0929x2.5504 (r2 = 0.8764) with a value of 0.0929 and the b value of 2,5504. Based on the results of the t-test, it shows that the value of b < 3 in the growth pattern is negative allometric, meaning that the relationship between length and weight has a slow and rapid increase in weight compared to the increase in length. The landed grey mackerel had a growth rate coefficient (K) = 0.40. Tuna fish obtained a total mortality value (Z) of 1.81/ year. Abstract

Cockroaches, houseflies and green locusts are three types of insects that are available around us, and even their presence tends to be a carrier of disease (host) and pests in agriculture. Based on these conditions, it is necessary to conduct an initial study of the potential bioactive compounds contained in the three types of insects, especially steroid and protein content as candidates for ˜ecdysteroids for crab moulting stimulants, as well as their social and economic potential. This research is qualitative with the following stages: i) insect collection using traps, ii) insect extraction, iii) chemical compound testing of insect extracts, and iv) proximate testing. The results showed that the insect animals tested were cockroaches, flies, and adult grasshoppers, and they were positive for steroid compounds tested using the Liebermann-Burchard method. From the results of the proximate test, the three insect animals have crude protein (%) 32.5 for cockroaches, 33.5 for flies, and 30.5 for grasshoppers. From a social perspective, utilising these animals will reduce disease-carrying hosts in the community. Economically, it will impact the emergence of a business chain in the supplier segment.Keywords: Aquaculture; Insects; Moulting; Protein; Steroid
